Dryer Vent Cleaning

Over 13,500 Home Fires Each Year
Are Caused by Clothes Dryers

Every year thousands of fires occur due to clothes dryers, some of which could have been avoided with proper dryer vent cleaning. Fires are not the only risk that a buildup of lint in your dryer vents could pose – it can also lead to:

  • Higher Energy Costs
  • Carbon Monoxide Leaks
  • Increased Wear & Tear on Clothes
  • Mold Growth
  • Shortened Appliance Life

Here's an Example of What Two Years of Lint Buildup Can Look Like:

Lower Your Risks – Dryer Vent Cleaning & Safety Tips

1. Clean the Lint Trap After Each Use

After every load, clean the lint from the dryer's lint screen. Keeping the lint trap clean will help prevent a fire and help your laundry dry faster (lowering energy use and energy costs). Keep in mind that the lint screen will not catch all the lint. Only about 25% of the lint from your clothes will get trapped in the filter. The rest could be building up inside your dryer vent system and may need professional dryer vent cleaning to remove.

2. Check Your Duct Connections

Typically, dryers come with a 4-inch vent in the back, which the installer would connect to the exterior vent. There are a variety of ductwork types used to connect the vents. If you have a plastic or foil accordion-style duct connection, you may want to replace it. These types of connections can trap lint in their ridges and are hard to clean. In addition, check ductwork connections to ensure there are no visible gaps. Use metal tape or clamps to connect duct sections instead of screws, because screws can catch lint, creating a buildup inside the ductwork.

3. Schedule Annual Dryer Vent Cleaning

While you can easily clean and maintain your lint trap and tailpipe yourself, a professional cleaning should be done annually or semiannually, depending on how often you use your dryer. Comfort Services Heating & Air Conditioning has the specialized tools needed to get the job done to help protect your family from the dangers of lint buildup. Our RotoBrush technology uses rapidly spinning brushes at the end of a powerful vacuum hose to scrub clean ductwork.
